 Michigan Distinguished Smallbore Rifle Award

In 1980 the MRPA Smallbore Division created a unique recognition of shooting excellence in the State of Michigan with its own Distinguished Smallbore Award.

For the past 10 years or so, awards were not provided or recorded.  However, the MRPA Smallbore Division is reinstating this award beginning with the 2010 season.  This award can be earned by a state resident by participating in the NRA registered smallbore state championship tournaments authorized by the MRPA.  There are normally three such designated tournaments scheduled each year.  They are the State 3-Position Gallery Championship, the State 3-Position Outdoor Championship, and the State Outdoor Conventional Prone Championship.

The total aggregate score of each of these matches is used to determine point awards towards the Michigan Distinguished Smallbore Award.  To earn the Michigan Distinguished Smallbore Award a competitor must accumulate a total of 30 points in any of these three state championships.

Points are awarded to those resident competitors shooting a score that is at or above the NRA minimum average for master classification and placing in the top scoring 10% of the championship aggregate as follows:

Winner                                   10 points
2nd Place                                  5 points
3rd Place                                  3 points
4th Place or more                    2 points

Once a competitor has earned this Distinguished Award he/she is no longer included in the top 10% thereafter.  A list of competitors with earned points will be posted on the MRPA website.

The Distinguished Award itself is an attractive wall plaque with MRPA Logo and engraved plate with the competitor’s name and a commemorative pin.
