Highpower Division

MRPA Highpower Division across-the-course matches and state championships are held at ranges through out Michigan. These tournaments are fired in various positions (standing, sitting and prone) at 200, 300 and 500 or 600 yards. This is traditional marksmanship competition using a NRA or CMP approved Highpower rifle with iron sights, a sling and wearing a shooting jacket. Most of the competitors use the AR-15 Service Rifle, however there are also Match Rifle competitors attending.

MRPA matches are held under NRA or Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) guidelines. Matches under NRA sanction count toward advancement in NRA classification. Under NRA guidelines shooters compete with other shooters of a similar skill level.

The Highpower Division also holds an annual CMP Garand Match, (check the table below for location). The Garand match is an opportunity for new shooters learn range safety and become introduced to Highpower. All shooters compete under nostalgic conditions that tie us back to the roots of early 20th Century Marksmanship. The rifles used in the Garand Match include the M-1 Garand, M1903, M1917, and M-1 Carbine in ‘as-issued’ condition. ‘As-issued’ means these rifles have not been accurized. All firing takes place at 200 yards in the basic rifle marksmanship positions. Participation in the Garand match allows shooters to participate in the surplus rifle sales program administered by the CMP.

Also held are CMP Excellence in Competition Matches (EIC) or ‘LEG’ matches, where Civilian and Military Service Rifle competitors may earn credit toward the Distinguished Rifleman’s Badge.

The MRPA Highpower Division also operates the Michigan Service Rifle Team; which, fields civilian teams at the National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio each year.
