2009 Michigan Long Range / F-Class Regional Thirty one competitors and half a dozen others out to practice their long range skills enjoyed the sun, wind, rain, sand, and powder smoke at this year’s Long Range Regional. Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky were represented, as well as the usual large Michigan contingent. The weather gods delivered enough rain on Friday and Saturday to let us shoot most of our matches while forcing cancellation of the last 20-round match on each day. Sunday, Zeus gave us a glorious, beautiful day. Bryan Litz, Berger Bullet’s ballistician, arrived with a copy of his recently published book, Applied Ballistics for Long Range Shooting, Applied Ballistics, LLC, 2009. It must have worked. Bryan came away with Silver at the end of the day. Conviviality was clearly high this year, as competitors wrangled at the end of each day over which of Grayling’s many gourmet eating establishments was to be frequented for the evening. Rare roast beef was the target of choice. Breaking new ground, we awarded NRA Regional Metals, not only to our conventional “sling” competitors, but also to our growing F(o) and F(tr) contingent as well. Diversity and equality, it appears, has come to Long Range shooting as well as to other elements of Michigan life.
